I read an article in the RNIB's Vision magazine earlier this year, from a reader who has done a microwave cookery course at Vista, Leicestershire's local RNIB Branch. Unfortunately, you can only use their services and facilities if you live in the Leicestershire area, and I personally don't.

I'd like to do a microwave cookery course. Of course Ican buy a book, maybe even get a recipe book on tape or in Braille or large print from the NLB or RNIB, but there are some parts of it that can't be properly done by a book, so I'd like to learn it. Does anyone know of anywhere that does microwave cookery courses? I've tried a web search, but nowhere seems to teach microwave cookery, only standard cookery or selling the books!

I'm in Nottingham, and when I'm not I'm in Sheffield, but I'd be willing to travel a short way if not too expenseive once a week!

Any suggestions anyone?

Try www.soundaround.org.
They have got microwave cookery on tape or cd for only one pound.
Good luck.

Thannks, I'll take a look at that. I'm mainly interested in actually going to some classes for it, because I'd like to know about cooking meat in the microwave, how long for and at what temperature etc. But I'll certainly pay soundaround a visit! Thanks.

have you considered buying one of the talking microwaves? for example if you tell it what the meat ways it is suppposed to calculate the cooking time for you.

Oh right, I didn't realize they'd become that advanced! lol. Thanks for that, when I permanently settle somewhere I will definitely look into that, at the moment i'm only in rented student accommodation so I'll reserve that for the future.

Cooking meat in the microwave is awfully risky. It's hard to get it cooked all of the way through with out ruening it. The only thing I can reccomend is to break it into smaller portions. It will take longer, but it will be safer, it will absorb spices and maranades better, and it will be more tender.
